![]() ![]() Louis talks like a Tony Robbins tape, or any other Saturday morning self-improvement guru selling seminars at the airport hotel. We should hate him, and though a part of us clearly fears him, another part has been programmed to respect his positive, boot-straps approach to profiteering. He knows your insecurities and your ego holes and he uses them to his advantage because he is extremely smart, and that’s another reason why we like him: He is one step ahead of the game, literally. Louis is a sociopath with violent tendencies, but like many sociopaths with violent tendencies, he also commands a chilling charm. How could he not? The man behind the wheel has no moral compass whatsoever. ![]() Louis is our touchstone in the passenger seat, holding the phone, trying to follow the blue dot on the GPS, but forever getting a little turned around. The City of Angels is represented through the gorgeous opening shots of the city at night, but also via the character of Rick Garcia (played by character actor Rick Garcia), an almost-homeless guy who ends up working with Louis as his assistant. And he succeeds because this is Los Angeles, after all. He has no fear of getting shots other reporters are too law-abiding, or simply too moral, to take.
